Birch Lake near Hackensack City ParkIt's the 14th season for the Kids Fishing Contest in Hackensack. The contest is held every Tuesday from June 8 through Aug. 24. Volunteers help kids fish for prizes and also participate in minnow races and a casting contest. Free sodas and hot dogs are served by the volunteer BBQ chefs.
Volunteers help kids remove hooks from fish, measure and weigh the catches, and release the fish back into the lake. Kids are also photographed with their catches.
The contest is open to children ages 15 and under with prizes awarded in three age groups. Participants are required to bring a fishing pole and life vest. Arrive early for registration—and have fun!
