Pick Your Own

Take advantage of summer's bounty by visiting one of Lake Country's many "U-Pick" farms. Fresh food is healthy food—and it doesn't get much fresher than if you pick it yourself!
It's easy to find places that offer pick-your-own options. One website, PickYourOwn.org, lists farms by region, state, and county. Click here to go right to the Minnesota page.
To learn all about a Lake Country farm where you can pick your own Saskatoon berries, read "Saskatoon Berries U-Pick" by Dee Goerge in the May/June 2010 issue of Lake Country Journal Magazine. You can also learn how to make a non-toxic insect deterrent spray for your plants using Irish Spring soap—just visit the story's Web Extra, although you will need to register or sign in first.
And if you'd like to tell our readers about your harvesting experiences, please leave a comment.
