Catch of the Day

“Give a man a fish; you have fed him for today. Teach a man to fish; and you have fed him for a lifetime”—Author Unknown
Eating fish fresh from our Minnesota lakes is the quintessential Lake Country experience. But sometimes it's hard to know what to catch, what to keep, and then what to do with it. Fortunately, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) website contains a lot of information to help you.
Lake Country Journal Magazine is full of information, too. Our food writer, Kay Wethern, authored an article in our May/June 2009 issue, "Gone Fishing! Family Style", that's chock full of advice, anecdotes, and recipes to ensure your culinary success. Wethern also wrote her "Seasonings" column about "Panfish" in the January/February 2008 LCJM and "Shore Lunch" in May/June 2006.
Although eating fish can be an healthy addition to your diet, you may have some questions about handling and eating fish fresh from the lake. Visit the Minnesota Department of Health website for some useful tips and advice:
