Spring Cleaning

Lake Country knows clean means healthy.
Flowers and spring cleaning items.

Spring has finally arrived in Lake Country and you’re face-to-face with that annual ritual—spring cleaning. Yes, it’s once again time to dust the light fixtures, clean the carpets, and vacuum behind the refrigerator.

I know it seems like drudgery, but spring cleaning has definite health benefits. Here are some tips from the Lake Country Journal Magazine staff that will help you keep your home sparkling clean and healthy:

Jean Borkenhagen, publisher, found these eco-friendly tips: Use ketchup to remove tarnish from copper and brass cookware. And lemons can clean your countertops, faucets, and grout. She also found these easy ways to tackle tough cleaning tasks and a daily quick cleaning checklist for doing a little bit every day.

Jodi Schwen, editor-in-chief, says to avoid streaks on your windows, finish with crumpled newspaper. Spray, wipe, then wipe again with newspaper. “There’s something in the newsprint that doesn't streak. But your hands get really black, so you might want to wear gloves.”

Bryan Petersen, production and technical director: “We like to use Method cleaning products. They are low odor, environmentally friendly, and they clean well.”

Janelle Breen, project and circulation manager, advises spring cleaners to address the chore in a methodical manner by cleaning room by room, from top to bottom. It’s not necessarily a unique approach, but it helps keep you organized to get the job done.
