Fire up that grill!

Dee Goerge’s article, “Smokin’ at Smokey Hills,” in the current issue of Lake Country Journal Magazine (May/June 2009, p. 50), got my tastebuds reminiscing about the barbecue I enjoyed when I lived in Texas. So I took a trip to the Internet and found there’s no shortage of recipes or advice for the backyard barbecue cook.
Minnesota has its own organization, the Minnesota Barbecue Society, a nonprofit, charitable organization dedicated to the promotion and enhancement of the art of outdoor cooking. They even have a motto, “Land of 10,000 Pits.” The group promotes events, contests, and education. For more information, visit their website or send an e-mail to info@mnbbq.org.
But the most complete site I found was Barbecue’n On The Internet, an enterprise started way back in 1996 that features tips for grilling and smoking, weekly recipes, secrets, techniques, FAQs, newsletters (with archive!), even a beginner’s section.
So dust off the barbecue grill, arm yourself with the appropriate tools, and head on into the outdoor grilling season. If you’d like some pointers, the Internet is as close as your keyboard. And, if you’ve got some secrets you’d like to share with our readers, register or log in and add a comment.
