Lake Country Walks to Remember

Brainerd, Minnesota, is hosting its first-ever Memory Walk this Saturday, Sept. 26. Walker, Minnesota, hosted one last weekend. St. Cloud, Minnesota, will host a Memory Walk Saturday, Oct. 3.
Why are the residents of Lake Country—and the rest of Minnesota and the country—rallying to this cause? As explained in the Promotions section of Lake Country Journal Magazine, (Sept/Oct 2009, p. 74), 5.2 million Americans currently suffer with Alzheimer's disease or a related disorder, and these numbers are expected to double as the "baby boom" generation ages.
To find out how you can participate in Lake Country or throughout the country, visit the Alzheimer's Association website.
The Brainerd Memory Walk will start Saturday at 10 a.m. at Kiwanis Park. For more information on this walk, call Alicia Story, Good Samaritan Society, (218) 855-6632.
It's win-win—you can walk for your health and help someone else's.

Good to hear that there are
Good to hear that there are persons who cares for Alzheimer's patients. Actually, until now, no one can give what can cure this illness but I am glad to hear that scientists have gone to good lengths to understand how the disease ravages the brain, typically approaching from the angle of genetics. According to Time, it is genetics that has opened a new avenue of discovery. When it comes to late-onset Alzheimer's - the most common form of the sickness - the genes MS4A, CD2AP, CD33, EPHA1 and ABCA7 certainly play a role. Here's a proof: "Alzheimer's gene breakthrough progresses battle against sickness."
